Awana at New Community Church

Check-In:

Check in will be in their classrooms with their Small Group Leaders (SGLs).  They will be asked the following questions:
1.  Were you at church over the weekend?
2.  Did you bring a gift for God?
3.  Did you bring your Bible?
4.  Did you bring your Awana Handbook or beginning flyer?
5.  Did you wear your Awana vest or t-shirt?
6.  Did you bring a friend?
The children receive a point for every affirmative question they answer.  These points are then added to their game points to determine a games winner each week.

Large Group Teaching:

We will be using the Summit Ministries (summit.org) elementary home school curriculum "Who is God" this year for Large Group Teaching time.  If you would like information on Summit Ministries, please visit their website.

Games:

The children love games at Awana and it is definitely a highlight of the evening.  This year we have a goal of being more intentional about incorporating Biblical teaching into the game time.  The T&T and Sparks kids are divided into four colored teams and will work together to recite a verse.  The kids earn points for the check-in questions, the number of verse recited by their team, how they participate/listen/cheer/mentor each other during the games and also for winning the games.  Each member of the winning team receives a candy bar each week.

Awards:

As part of the handbook process the kids receive awards at certain points along the way.  These awards are recognition for their hard work memorizing Scripture.  The SGLs will either had out the awards directly to the children before dismissal or hand the award to the parent at check-out.  The handbook states when an award is due to a clubber.  We also recognize the children's accomplishments at the beginning announcement portion of the evening.

Craft Time:

We will use this time to reinforce the large group lesson of the semester.

Dismissal/Check-Out:

We will ask each parent to sign/initial their child out of their class room each Wednesday evening.  They will sign out with their SGLs to ensure we are releasing the child to the appropriate person.  If this is someone different than normal or than who dropped the child off in the beginning of the evening, please be sure to notify the SGL at check-in.
