In December each year, our congregation reaches out to the students and families of Imani in a personal way. In 2011, we are putting a new twist on what we will be providing the students:
How is this year’s Imani party different from past years?
New Community Church will be having a “Warmth of Christmas” drive, focusing on the supply of sweaters, hats, gloves, and scarves instead of toys. Many of these inner city kids come to school without these basics, so we want to show the love of Christ by supplying these items for every student at the school. The party itself is also different this year as describe below.
How can NCC people participate?
Each person is invited to volunteer their time in some way. You can let us know the way that you and your family are able to participate by registering online.
We also invite every family to take an ornament off of one of the Christmas trees that will be up from November 20th through December 4th. Trees are outside the worship center and down in the commons area of Kids’ Kingdom. Don’t forget to let one of our team members (at the adjoining table) know which student you are sponsoring and to pick up an instruction sheet. Please take time to read the instruction sheet as it will give you all the details on what you will need to supply and how/when to return everything.
This year, we are asking you to supply hats, gloves, and scarves for each student. You will also be supplying a $25 check to cover the purchase of the sweater. There are two reasons why the NCC team are purchasing the sweaters for you. First Imani has a strict uniform policy so the look of the sweater had to conform to that. Secondly, by purchasing the sweaters in bulk, we were able to get the highest quality sweater at the best possible price. Your $25 contribution covers the cost of that purchase for the child you are sponsoring. The appropriate sized sweater will be added to your gift bag, with your other items before the party.
When is the Imani Party?
In past years, New Community Church and Imani have hosted a party for the Imani students’ families on a Saturday in December. This year, we will be hosting classroom parties on Thursday, December 22nd during the school day, in support of the teachers.
Imani Christian Academy includes grades kindergarten through 12th grade, so there is a lot of work to be done in putting these parties together! We are looking for NCC volunteers to:
· Bake cookies for the parties
· Assemble cookies trays and gift bags with the purchased sweaters
· Assist in the classroom parties on December 22nd
